The BIG Push 2009
November 15th, 2009
The much anticipated Big Push 2009 is here and voting is now being cast at MPORA for the Best Edit. If your not subscribed to Sidewalk (or have not bought this months issue) you may not have actually seen the edits yet! But, they are available to view online as of today at the same address.
So I have just watched the DVD i got free with this issue and I wasn’t disappointed. Although I was slightly shocked as to which teams shone through.
ADIDAS
It started pretty poor. They had the ‘Tasks’ at the beginning and it just wasn’t happening for me. The filming was pretty shoddy and they had really tried too hard for the whole ‘multiline’ effect with different skaters. They did pick it up again pretty quick and I liked that it was all street after the tasks. Some smooth skating and the film quality was greatly improved!
Jhon Tanner really stood out for me and his Blunt Flip-out was sick.
DC
They must have picked a good straw by getting London, but i don’t think they used it as well as they should. Although there were some huge tricks and they hit all the classic London Parks; Stockwell, Mile End, Harlow and Crawley. Somehow ended up in Brighton at one point?! Picked up best soundtrack for me as im a big fan of instrumentals for Skateboarding Film.
Etnies
Etnies, as always, had a great picture and some wicked park skating. Maybe a little too much park, if that’s possible? The only team with a Vert Skater, Sam Bosworth, which was nice to see. I did quite enjoy the editing and how they mixed it up a little with the Mad Hatter sequence.
Barney Page KILLED it in his section. Didn’t he recently have ‘first-light’ in Sidewalk? Coincidence. His back-crook at that memorial piece was crazy; he must have been attacking that thing to clear the cobbled stones around it. Definitely a contender for best skater on the DVD.
Nike SB
I always think that Nike just have bottomless pockets.. Their commercials, team and films show that. I wasn’t sure if that would come through in their edit. Turns out it did! In a good way though, it wasn’t overdone and the picture quality was fantastic. I feel like im at the Oscars or something; ‘And best picture goes to..!’.
And oh my.. Best trick in this section toward the end (should have noted who..) but Nollie BS flip (was it…? not sure) – HUGE and styled out.
Shiner
I think that this was the most surprising section for me. It seems zero budget and super fun with some great skateboarding thrown in and it just worked!
Ben Reamers definately picks up ‘quote of the Push’; ‘Ive seen more Gingers here than i have in my whole entire life… Lets get out of here!‘. What a character, I cant wait to see what Enjoi do with him.
Vans
The whole section is themed and although it is done well, it just didn’t do it for me. IT was like they were trying too hard or something. I just remember the whole time thinking; ‘When is the real section going to start?’
Of course, all of this is just one guys opinion and, what do I know!? Make sure you watch the edits and Vote for yourself.
